I am at my wits end! Everything worked perfectly last week before I sold this Twilight Zone Pinball Machine on ebay. Today, as I prepped the machine before shipping, I ran into a minor problem.

I changed the 3 AA batteries, since I didn't want them to go dead in transit and it had been 18 months since I changed them. I made sure the battery holder was uncorroded and the batteries tested for the required voltage.

I then turned the machine on and went to the test buttons on the coin door to make it free play. None of the buttons worked. I pushed each button several times and nothing happens.

I checked the wires and grounds and they all appear good. I then press the enter button for 3 to 4 secs, and the machine cycled through the B menu options. However I couldn't use + or - to change the B options nor could I use the escape button. It just kept cycling through the B selections. (my finger was off the enter button at this point--it was automatically cycling).

So that's the first time I ever saw that happen. Also, the enter button shouldn't trigger a B menu selection at all. The + or - buttons should do that?

I turned the machine on and off several times and tried the enter button to start the test. Still no dice...nothing happens?

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Thanks

You might check u16,u19 and u20 on the cpu board under the batteries for corrosion.I had visibly bad corrosion on one machine that I worked on and that was the problem. It would automatically think I was pushing the - button.

Thought I'd add in my "rookie" 2 cents worth on this because I had the exact same problems and went searching for help. In my case it ended up being one of the black wires that went to the coin slot. After inspecting the wiring harness that goes through the door, I noticed a black wire that did not go into the machine but rather doubled back to another connection on the door. Tracing this I saw it go to the bottom of one of the coin slot mechanisms. As soon as I found that I did a quick test by holding it to the solder joint and found that button responded. Then I re-soldered the wire and all was well. What a relief? Two big lessons for me related to the coin door. One is that switches that are supposed to get depressed by a gold colored bracket. The bracket was all bent and not depressing the button so the high voltage coils did not work. Two was the wiring. Check it all carefully. I will also toss in this advice. If it "was" working prior to your invasive action to try and fix something, and now it is broken, assume nothing about the wiring - check it to make a sure a wire didn't break off somewhere, or a fuse was blown and do it before you go much further. Also learn to use a multi-meter because if nothing else you can check everything and have confidence it is OK, and you can keep searching exhaustively for the thing that isn't. it was amazing to me how many problems were fixed by find the no-longer connected wire.
