Will Outlook 97 work with Windows XP Home? I recently upgraded from Windows
98 to XP Home. After that Outlook 97 stopped working. I reinstalled it but it
still doesn't work. Some error messages regarding missing or erroneous files
appear during the startup of Outlook. Any hints?

Yes, working here with Home and Pro, both SP2.

I have never had much success upgrading my OS, you would probably be
better off doing a clean install. You must ensure ALL your data is
backed up (preferably in two places) if you go this route.

Does this mean that Outlook 97 is NOT compatible with Windows XP Home?

Outlook 97 is compatible with Windows XP.
If you need help troubleshooting it, you need to
describe what difficulty you are having, in detail,
and post to the Outlook newsgroup experts.

It works fine with XP Home.
In many ways Office 97 is better then later versions because it's not
so bloated.

Just F.Y.I. I posted the following on the Outlook newsgroup experts website:
I've got problems with Outlook 97 after I upgraded my OS
from Windows 98 to XP Home. When I start Outlook, I get
the following error messages (note, I have a Swedish
version of Outlook so I have translated the messages into
English):
- It is not possible to install the configuation file for
the addin C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\Addins\EMSUIX.ECF. An error has been found
in the syntax or file format. Error in configuration file
C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\Addins\EMSUIX.ECF.
- Same for ETEXCH.ECF
- Same for MSFMENU.ECF
- Same for MINET.ECF
- Same for MSSPC.ECF
- The Addin ETEXCH.ECF is missing or invalid. Use the
command Search under the Start menue to look for the
file. Then copy the file to the Addins folder in the
Outlook Program folder of (Windows) Explorer. You can
also reinstall Outlook.

The files mentioned above are all in the Addins folder. I
have reinstalled Outlook without any result. Can anybody
suggest me what to do to resolve the problem? I am not
quite sure what is meant by the final sentence mentioned
above "Then copy the file to the Addins folder in the
Outlook Program folder of (Windows) Explorer".
Thanks,
Lars

Ref to the message below, I discovered that I had ticked the box under the
Compatibility tab in Outlook Properties, marking Windows 98. When I unticked
the box, Outlook starts normally.

However, a short while after Outlook has started, I get a "Microsoft Windows
Messaging Subsystem" message saying (again translated from Swedish to English
so the terminology may not be exactly as the original English one): "MAPI
Spooler has unexpectedly terminated. Close all mailconnected programs before
you log on again". This happens even if no other applications are running.
The effect is that no mails can be sent or received. Any idea about what to
do?
