I'm trying to upgrade to XP, I just bought a brand new "upgrade XP
w/SP2".
* First problem said:
"Setup cannot continue because upgrade functionality is disabled, your
copy of Windows XP only allows upgrades" I did upgrade my HD more
than once since I got SE98, and each time cloned the drive, so I
thought that might be the problem. So I re-installed (overwrote) SE98
from my Win98 CD. I haven't seen that original error message again,
but now:
* Second problem: Now this error message keeps popping up,
"Winnt32 performed illegal operation"

Help! Thanks, Bonnie

Did you run the Upgrade Advisor to see if your hardware
and software is indeed Windows XP compatible?

Thank you very much for the thoughts. Success!!!. Here's what I did:
1) Searched MS knowledge base, got some ideas, rebooted bare-bones,
still problems.
2) Kept chipping away, mucho errors of all sorts, getting worse and
worse.
3) Finally, blue screen of death, can't even get back to ANY Windows,
old or new.
4) Convinced CD is corrupted.... remote chance CD drive is NG.
5) My husband intervened (oh no, the bulldozer mechanic!) LOL...
Anyway, we suspect the CD is full of dust, etc. He pulls it apart,
clean as a whistle, but he suggests dusting a clean paper towel over
the laser thingie, even though it's perfectly clean. Put it back
together, tried again..
6) Installed like a dream. After only 8 hours of grief... Well,
guess I can't blame "Bill" for this one... <g>

I've been using that CD drive right along for other stuff.... weird.
Thanks again, Bonnie
