I just update the Call of Duty World at War to patch v1.2 and suddenly the game does not have sound. The sound settings in the game appear to be on. What happened how I can fix this? I have vista64bit and on board sound card realtek high definition audio.

* Fixed sound device crashes stemming from Emulated Sound Devices

* Hits now register properly while targeted player is leaning.
* Enabled /cg_drawfps in multiplayer games.
* Fixed command-line +connect functionality
* /cg_fov no longer resets to the default value in between matches.
* Dedicated servers automatically reconnect to the Master Server in case the Master Server resets.

The patch fix (Fixed sound device crashes stemming from Emulated Sound Devices) but instead of fixing this cause problems with the sound.

16bit, 48000hz (DVD Quality)

Worked for me, I set it to 48000hz because back when 24bit worked the game would crash with any hz higher then 48000.

Thanks for your help I change the 24bit, 48000hz (studio Quality) to 16bit, 48000hz (DVD Quality) and it work now. But dose this produce low Quality sound 24bit is better than 16bit right?

yeah 24bit is better then 16bit but 16bit is better then 24bit that does not work! There may be another solution to this problem but this is the only one that I know of.
