I have recently bought A lian-li pc-9300 case, a micro-ATX motherboard and power-supply. But... the power supply doesn't work. I'm getting a new one sent in the mail.

In the meantime - can I plug an standard ATX power supply into my new micro-atx motherboard and use it. The sockets look mechanically compatible - and all bar 1 of the pins are electrically compatible - (the micro-atx supply doesn't have -5V on pin 18)

Yes, in fact, you can put a mATX board in a standard ATX case (with room to spare).

There is no such thing as a Micro ATX power supply. There are small form factor ATX power supplies, in the SFX and PSIII styles, but they are still ATX power supplies, simply using a smaller housing for smaller cases.
