I have all the parts for my new system:

P4 2.66 GHz
1.5 gig (3x512) Corsair PC2700 (CL2)
Shuttle AS45GTR Mobo
Maxtor Diamond Max 9 200 gig HD (8 meg cache)
ATI 9700 All in Wonder
Emermax 465W Dual Fan PSU
GMC Noblesse case w/ 4 80mm Vantec Stealth fans
CD-ROM, CD-RW, and floppy from old system
Will be installing Win2K Adv Server

And its sits here. I've read every manual and every one screams of danger and the horrors of not doing EXACTLY the right thing at the right moment. BIOS, CMOS, GART, IDE drivers all around... oh my!

Am I scaring myself? I've read numerous "how to build your own" sites, but none seem to speak to everything.

So am I scaring myself needlessly?

Yup...

First system I ever built...I was scared to death...

Must have redone my heatsink compound like 6 times before I thought I got it right...

Just relax...trust your instincts...make sure you ground yourself before you touch anything...

And THG actually has pretty good guides for building your PC...

Don't panic...you can do it...

Yea, you are scaring yourself. It's hard to screw up if you pay attention.

Here's how I would do it if I were you. Build minimum configuration that is: MOBO, RAM, Vid Card, CD ROM (& maybe floppy if needed), CPU & cooler & 1 HDD. Put that together, boot it & set BIOS. Then load the OS & get it stable. After that load the extra cards that you have 1 at a time. You'll be fine a running good.

Otherwise the boxes are pretty to look at I guess!

If it ain't broke, take it apart & see why not!
