Hey guys, its been a while. I have a small annoyance in my Windows 7 PC. The device names for my two network adapters (yes two, physically 2 ethernet ports) are ridiculously long. So long that any time I actually need to know which is which (they are identical until the very end where one has a "#2" at the end) I can't tell because they get cut off.

I need to cut out some of the meaningless and useless designation from the names but I don't know how.

And when I say ADAPTERS I absolutely mean ADAPTERS. These names are found in the Device manager not network connections.

Please, I am not averse to editing the registry if that is what it takes.

Solution
The adatper name is stored in a few places in the registry. You could try just searching for it and changing every occurrence. But I'm not about to try this, so do it at your own risk.
