I have a laptop with an Athlon 64 3000+ CPU, 512 MB of PC2700 RAM, and a 4200 rpm 60 HD. I'm considering installing GoBack 3.0 on it. does anyone have any experience with the software? if so how much of the 55.88 GB of HD space should I allocate to the program's restore files and how much of a performance hit should I expect?

I would say about 1-2 GB not more because windows install is actually less than 1 GIG i dont think it will beackup your 3rd party software.
