I am about to buy the P4C800 board, and wanted to check with you all to see if you have found any negatives with the new board. It is the Canterwood board, 875 chipset.
Looks to have everything, and I have heard Asus has good boards.

I have read a couple reviews, that gave it positives, but I have not read any real comparisons between the Asus and other brand boards.

any help would be appreciated, about to buy....
thx.

Where are you going to buy it from?

The only real drawbacks I see at this point are, A) There isn't enough other i875 board reviews to make a good comparison and B) The price is still suffering from low availability boost.

yah, i agree with you.
i have seen a couple reviews, all seem positive, but not head to head reviews. also, prices on pricewatch are low 200s.
I think i will just go for it.

I'm also looking at the Asus board. The MSI board looks good too so its hard to know what to go for.

Does anyone if the AI Features on the Asus board are just marketing junk or do they actually work ?

The AI Overclocking looks like it could be useful for an overclocking novice like me (if it works :) )

No CSA
Poor placement of socket in relation to HSF mount.

Basically though, it is a killer board. Great price and Asus quality. Me personally, I am going with the 8KNXP non-pro. The pro has SCSI built in and no firewire, and the non-pro has firewire, but not SCSI built in. The Gigabytes IMO have the best layout and DPS looks to be a nice feature. It is also the most consistant performer, although most all the i875P mobos perform relative the same.

One mans throw-away is another mans god-box. Help friends in need, I always do!!
Then again, having extra parts are great for making dedicated servers for LAN parties!!!!

ditto crashman. Also, isn't Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) that comes with the IC7-G similar to the DPS of the gigabyte board?

No, ACPI is a standard feature that allows your OS to do things like sleep, suspend, and power off. Gigabyte "DPS" is a dual set of VRM's (voltage regulators).

BTW, I've been waiting for a top notch Abit board, since Abit has the best user level warranty service in the industry. Basically, you tell them a board is bad, they give you an RMA, you send it, they send one back. No fees (such as Soyo has), no long delays (such as Asus has), they even pay return shipping.

As mentioned it doesn't have CSA or the Southbridge with SATA RAID support (I got that from Anandtech). If it's true that it doesn't have the SATA RAID then I think I'm going to give a look at the Abit one... which seems really nice. Obviously if you don't care about either of these it won't be such a bit deal.

But I'd say probably wait a bit anyway... I read that the suggested price is $199 and newegg was selling it for $260 when I checked :p.

If I understand correctly, the boards with integrated SATA RAID have an "R" suffix, as in Southbridge ICH5R.

I looked at the Abit board's page, it showed it has a second SATA RAID controller for dual RAID. I have no use for the second controller. I wouldn't necessarily mind having a third IDE connector though, such as the MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R, but I don't feel like paying for the "super delux" version to get it, and the cheaper LSR version doesn't have a 1394 port.

Oh, the Asus board has an extra IDE connector tied into it's second SATA controller also, but it's not the top performer yet. The main thing I like about the Asus board is it's fanless chipset sink. Of course the main thing I like about the Abit board is it's 4-phase power regulator.

I think I'll have to sit on this another week and wait for more reviews. The lack of an extra IDE connector on the Abit board would do little to hurt me since I have lots of cards. I prefer to have my CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and C: drive on separate channels.

CSA is a new bus that right now can only be used with Intel chips... it connects to the northbridge and is 1gbit. It doesn't share this bandwith with anything else.

If you didn't know, right now all the gbit lan goes through the southbridge, which has a connection to the northbridge of only 266mb/s... and gbit itself takes up quite a bit of that.

You guys are being a bit overzealous. You should wait a bit when more tests of the boards are released before saying your gonna get the Asus or MSI... so far all I've seen is that there are bugs creeping up all over the place, which has delayed the mass release of the boards... I say wait atleast a few weeks before you decide...
