hi....

should I update my BIOS settings? I checked w Dell's support site, and
there is an update available for my XPS system....BUT, just before I
jumped into the abyss, I stopped!
should I update from the .05 version to .06? the reason im hesitant is
because of the usual unknown of updates!... will it cause new unknown
problems?....are BIOS updates a major thing??
should I leave good enough alone?..........or am I being too cautious?
then I read the disclaimer which basically said "its not Dell's fault
if this update blows up your comp!"

any advise will be greatly appreciated..............THX
George

Unless you have a compelling reason to flash the BIOS it's best to leave it
alone.

Unless there is a need to update the BIOS, it is usually unnecessary and can
result in a dead MB if anything goes wrong. If there is an actual reason to
flash the BIOS, make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions exactly.
Flash a bios only when necessary, information can be found in the link below
for most systems.

| They dont issue updates for no reason!!

That's right, numbnuts. They issue them for *specific* reasons, and unless
the OP is affected by a problem that the BIOS update addresses, there is
*no* reason to update.

I'm glad to see that there's at least one other person who recognizes the
tautology in that stupid Arthur C. Clarke quotation.
