I need some advice. I just had a birthday and my parents told me to choose some sort of present for $500. It doesn't have to be one thing, it can be a collection of things.
I have a computer:
Athlon 1.2, GeForce3, 512mb PC133 ram etc...
I was thinking of maybe upgrading my computer, but maybe I can find something more worthwhile to buy. As for consoles I have a PS One.
Your computer is fine for gaming. I would suggest a console - either a PS2 or an XBox. There are some fantastic games for both, although I personally think that the PS2 has a stronger software library.
Happy Birthday!

Maybe you can upgrade your motherboard and memory to DDR.
You won't need a GeForce4, and I think your CPU is fast enough, and 512 MB RAM... well that is plenty.

Thaks for the advice guys.
This is exactly what I ended up doing. I upgraded the motherboard to a GigaByte KT333 board, and the memory to 512MB DDR 2700. I also threw in an 80GB Western Digital HD with 8mb cache and Creative Audigy sound card. I also bought a Thrusmaster Force Feedback Wheel. Amazingly all this was only $500 plus $30 for the shipping. Pretty neat, no?
BTW is your CPU unlocked? If it is I can tell you how to overclock your FSB without increasing the CPU core speed to much, this will give you much more memory bandwith.

yes .. that should last you until the next birthday at least
