I’m really frustrated by Bigbrother OS Winxp. I got a dialup
connection running smoothly in WinMe step brother of XP...256mb RAM
and a P4 with a well eastablished ISP and firewall(zonealarm).
Now my problems have just begun after installing Xp be it Home or Pro
i do not get any speed and webpages dont open fast all i get is "Page
not found " error and only some pages open like Google. I just keep
hitting the F5 key and refresh again and again in vain.Well as in the
same configuration i get blazing speeds in Winme. I just want to keep
one OS. Then why is XP acting so funny and not cooperating. I have a
hard time surfing in XP and switched over to ME. Kindly throw some
light on my plight.
1. Any tools to correct this problem or any patch.
2 Why dont my pages open fast as in WinME.
3. Is Xp made this way only for Broadband.
4. Should i forget Xp and use backward compatible OS like WIn98se and
WInme.
5. Or Xp is just a propaganda and nothing else.
6. Xp stealing bandwith (QOS), after disabling too no success.

Firewall interference ruled out as zonealarm on any firewall in Winme
runs smooth without hitches.

You upgraded to Windows XP, did you also install the latest Windows XP
drivers?
Especially modem drivers?

Here are some answers to your questions..

1. Any tools to correct this problem or any patch.

Yes.. XP modem drivers..

2 Why dont my pages open fast as in WinME.

You haven't installed XP modem drivers

3. Is Xp made this way only for Broadband.

No.. you haven't installed XP modem drivers

4. Should i forget Xp and use backward compatible OS like WIn98se and Winme.

Backwards steps could be avoided if you just install XP modem drivers

5. Or Xp is just a propaganda and nothing else.

You would not be making ridiculous statements like that if you had installed
XP modem drivers

6. Xp stealing bandwith (QOS), after disabling too no success.

No.. just install XP modem drivers

Have you made sure that your PC's hardware components are capable
of supporting WinXP? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Windows Catalog:
(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx) Additionally, run
Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor to see if you have any incompatible
hardware components or applications.

You should, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for, sold and run fine
with Win9x/Me very often do not meet WinXP's much more stringent
hardware quality requirements. This is particularly true of many
models in Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line or HP's
consumer-class Pavilion product line. WinXP, like WinNT and Win2K
before it, is quite sensitive to borderline defective or substandard
hardware (particularly motherboards, RAM and hard drives) that will
still support Win9x.

There are issues with zone alarm pro and windows xp with sp2. Use a
different firewall if you have sp2 installed. Also windows xp by default was
made for broadband not dial-up download a program called Dr. Tcp and drop
the MTU value from 1480 to 576 and drop the RWIN value to one half or one
quarter of what the default value is then click on apply and ok.
