Omnibook XE4400 Laptop

Got what I believe is a faulty DVD/CDROM in this laptop, (drive is a
SD-C2612).

I would prefer to change to a DVD/CDRW but have tried a CDRW in it
(Panasonic UJDA360), not recognised by the laptop.

This brings me to my main question - how are drives jumpered (CS / Master /
Slave) in a laptop ? Is it on the mainboard, internally within the drive
????

And, has anyone changed a drive in one of these who could suggest which one
to go for ?

Can Ben help with this one?

I have managed to swap in a Teac drive DW224E which was recognised, off to
Ebay now!!!
