Looking to replace a still working, but older Kyocera 2135 associated
with my Freeup/prepay plan. Still works, just has some worn key
labels and is larger than I would like.
Went into the local Verizon store and was told that the only option to
get a new phone while keeping my number and minutes was to buy a
complete new "introductory" package, with card/activation I have no
need for. Two options were priced at $119 and $189.
I was hoping to spend less than $100 - otherwise, I'll just keep the
existing phone.
Was the salesperson correct? Are these my only options to replace my
existing phone?

That's about it. There's really no commission on a free up account to
the dealer, except the sale of the introductory package.

The salesperson was wrong.
Last January, my daughter-in-law bought a new phone and gave me her
old Motorola 120C which she no longer needed.
Customer Service had no trouble activating her old phone on my existing
PrePay account, and all of my prepaid and bonus minutes remained intact.
Call Customer Service on a landline, and have the replacement phone ready.
