LF : Decent budget oriented mobo+CPU combo

Hi all,

I am building a desktop as a secondary computer for running cad software (nothing too intense). It really is a budget oriented build, so i'm not looking for i7 CPUs and stuff. What I am looking for, is a cheap but still decent motherboard + CPU combo. I do not need anything else if it runs on DDR2, if it runs on DDR3, I will need at least 4GB of DDR3 memory. I have no preference as to AMD or Intel.

Current setup is HP/Asus P5LP-LE (Lithium) + 3.0 GHz Pentium D, while that isn't hard too beat, the suggested combo must outperform the current setup.

  1. I have a gigabyte am3 board for sale, but no cpu to go with it. You can use any regor dual core. Check anandtech's for sale forum, where my board is listed. They get more posts and responses. I also found my deal on craigslist and recently got a decent atx foxconn board for $45 shipped from newegg's shellshocker deals. The e5200 or e7200 core2 duo would also work well and they are as low as $40; the g31 open box boards start at around $35 shipped in newegg's open box section.
