Hi all,

I've been thinking about getting a new computer so that I could run games such as World in Conflict and Crysis. With a bit of research, I came up with this system. What do you all think?

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 / 3.16Ghz / 6MB Cache / 1333FSB / LGA775
Corsair DDR2 4GB PC-8500/1066 (2x XMS2 2GB) TWIN2X4096-8500C5D RAM
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L Intel Mainboard - 4x DDR2 / 6x SATA / 1x IDE / Gigabit LAN
Asus EAH4870-DKHTDI-1GD5 RADEON 4870, 1G, DDR5, PCIE2.0, 2xDVI, HDTV, HDCP, HDMI, DK
Antec EarthWatts 500W ATX Power Supply
Antec NSK4000 Case
Pioneer DVR-216 SATA DVD Re-Writer (20x - Black)
Western Digital Caviar Green Power 1TB 7200RPM 32MB SATA 3Gbs

Thanks in advance for any opinions,
Jack

the e8500 is fast and will OC very well although not very future proof if game manufactures start making use of quad cores in a year or 2

if you intend having the PC for more than 2 years with out upgrading id suggest a quad

also u may not need 1066 ram as a ratio of 1:1 at a fsb of 1600 is 800 ram although 1066 ram is cheap these days so mabey its fine and gives u more flexibility

only suggestion i really have is look into the possiblity of a quad and include the new phenoms 2

1 personal thing i prefer 2 drives one for OS ine for Data. so if u wana upgrade and take all ur pics, music ect with u
also having 2 hard drives in your PC is always useful when things go worng :P

Thanks for the reply. Have you got any suggestions regarding a quad core?

I was considering two drives, but changed my mind after hearing opinions about the WD Caviar Green. If I was to go with the two drives, what would you recommend?

EDIT - Would you recommend a Core 2 Quad Q6600 or a Q8200?

well the q8200 in theory would be a good over clocker though it has a lower multiplier so the motherboard may stop u geting to the desired fsb, although the q6600 with oc well as its fsb is low with a high multiplier however its 60nm rather than 45nm and will get a lil hotter.

i my self have a q6600 which also has more cache. im not sure which id suggest between the two though :s on paper the q6600 is a lil more powerful. look at some benchmarks

if u are concidering the q6600 look into the phenom 2's i cant suggest one as im more into amd but have heard good things about them

I was looking into the Green HDD and I was told by a few to skip them..for games. If you have money to burn:

Hard Drive with OS and files: 300GB WD Velociraptor (10K RPM)
Hard Drive with Games: WD SATA II 650TB or 1TB

DVD-RW: I like Lite-On or LG. I have a LG on my new system and it's great.
