Doom 4 (DOOM Is the official title) is the upcoming installment of the Doom series by id Software and a sequel of Doom 3. It will use the company's new id Tech 5 engine. It was announced as in production on May 7, 2008,[2] following speculation by John Carmack at QuakeCon on August 3, 2007.[3] As with previous Doom games, Doom 4 will primarily be a showcase for the computers, with John Carmack stating that the computer version of Doom 4 will look significantly better than the console versions due to the power of high-end computer hardware.[4]
They are, simply because D3D is easier to code for. But ID's used OGL for a while now (Doom 3, which broke a lot of ATI cards due to poor OGL support), so theres no real surprise there. A lot of smaller studios (Stardok) also use OGL.
OGL is just as capable as D3D (Doom 3 still holds up pretty well, not bad for 2001...), its just a harder language.
