Howdy all,

I am running an AMD 2000XP+ (266) on a Giga-Byte GA-7VAXP with the most recent F11 BIOS. I am currently running 1GB Crucial 333 CAS2.5 memory.

I'm a little confused by FSB frequencies. I am looking at upgrading to a 2800XP+ (333) [the fastest CPU my mobo will handle].

My question or questions are:

Since my current CPU is 266 mHz, is any part of my mobo running at 333 (e.g. memory to north bridge) since my memory is 333 and the BIOS is set to 333 FSB?

Mostly im curious if my current mobo will take advantage of the 333 freq. of the 2800XP+ cpu, or if its not really designed for that cpu.

Thanks,
Vic

your mothrboard is based on the via kt400 chipset. this is capable of running the fsb at 333mhz (166 ddr) and the memory at 400(200ddr). currently you are running at 266/333 (fsb/mem). so your memory interface is indeed running at 333mhz. if you upgrade to a xp2800 with 333fsb you will not just see an improvement because of the speed grade increase but also because of the extra performance you get from the faster bus and running fsb and memory synchronously.
