I recently bought a pc with an msi 655 max ls motherboard and the seller said it was HT Ready. How can I make sure it is? Windows info and msi info don't say. It has an HT Ready sticker on MB Sis chip but that is easy to do.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Currently running a P4 2.4b

Yes, it's <A HREF="http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=424&MODEL=MS-6730" target="_new">HT ready</A>.

Thanks for replying elzt and for posting the link.

I've been all throught the msi website and read all they say about the 655 max series of mb's before.
They make a 655 max ls board without HT Ready as well. The earlier board only supports chips up to 2.8ghz. The newer board supports chips up to 3.06 and higher. What I was looking for was a way to confirm, either on the board itself or using info software, that it is in fact the second board that does support HT. From all appearances it is but I bought this pc at a local small pc shop and I wouldn't put it past them to simply put an HT sticker on the board. I am assuming they were honest, but would like to make sure.

Thanks again for responding so quickly.

That's a good question. As they both have the same model name and PCB version printed on the board, it's hard to tell if yours is the HT version by looking at the board alone. On the other hand, the MSI site does mention that the BIOS version between the two mobos are slightly different:

<A HREF="http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/cpu_support/cpu/spt_cpu_detail.php?UID=403 &NAME=MS-6730" target="_new">Old 655 Max</A>
<A HREF="http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/cpu_support/cpu/spt_cpu_detail.php?UID=424 &NAME=MS-6730" target="_new">New 655 Max (HT ready)</A>

Maybe you can tell which board you got with this info. Sorry that's all I know. Perhaps other 655 Max owners can shed some light on this?

MSI are bad for not updating their product info when a newer procesoor or etc comes out.
So they print the fastest processor at the time on their product discription and leave it like that.

Thanks for the info. In general, I prefer to verify things like this for the reason you describe. Companies generally tend to only want to sell product. Accuracy isn't mandatory for sales.

Thanks again for responding.

Good idea to check the bios vs. I will do that. Also thanks for providing the links elzt.
