hey

I am currently in the process of building a new PC and i will be going with Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz
533FSB 512K ATC Socket 478 Northwood Retail Box.

My question is, Would the Asus P4S8X be good enough to handle the CPU?

This is my first time building a PC so any help would be appreciated.

* Now that motherboards are available utilizing the new canterwood chipset, I would build on one those motherboards.

* I would also choose a "C" variant Intel Pentium4 processor in this case like 3.0C. 3.0C operates at 3GHz, sports the new 800MHz FSB and hyperthreading. Use a Canterwood or Springdale chipset motherboard with "C" variant CPUs.

* If you go the "C" variant Pentium4/Canterwood route, I recommend Corsair XMS memory: Corsair XMS PC3200 C2 or Corsair XMS PC3500 C2 (preferred). Memory needs to be used in pairs in order to enable the Dual DDR feature of canterwood/springdale - 2x512MB, 2x256MB or 4x512MB for example.

On Asus' website there are two P4S8X boards: P4S8X and P4S8X-X. P4S8X officially supports Intel Pentium 4 (Northwood / Willamette)1.4 GHz ~ 2.53+ GHz. Up to 533MHz FSB. P4S8X-X officially supports Intel Pentium 4 (Northwood / Willamette) up to 3.06GHz. Up to 533MHz FSB.
