Has anyone tried the HP LaserJet 3030 multifunction under MacOS X
10.3.x? I bought one of these a few months ago and have noticed an
annoying problem: it drops the job submited while there is a job
printing.
For example, suppose I have two documents open in Word and then submit
both for printing back-to-back. Both will show in the queue and the
first will start printing. When the first finishes, there will be a
pause and then the second job will be dropped. If a third job was
submited it will then start printing. Otherwise, if those were the
only two jobs, the printing will display Ready. It is not job related
as the second job will print fine if submited again while the printer
is idle. It is also unrelated to the application submitting -- the
problem occurrs when printing from Adobe Acrobat, Word, etc.
The problem does not occur if I use the builtin Apple drivers for the
printer (standard USB instead of HP's AiO USB). However, then I loose
access to the unit's FAX, scan, and computer-based configuration. I
think it is possible to configure the unit entirely through the
front-panel but it is more tedious than the computer-based
configuration tools. The unit should still work as a standalone FAX
(and with my laptop's builtin outgoing FAX, I don't need the 3030 to
FAX from my computer), but I do need the scan features (that's why I
bought a multifunction unit instead of a standalone printer that would
have cost half the price).
I don't understand why HP needs their own (so-called AiO) USB drivers
instead of just using the builtin Apple USB drivers that appear to be
good enough for every other manufacturer and USB device.
