Hello…..I am in the process of building another desktop, for use in testing new Oses, apps, video cards, etc. and I still need to purchase a mobo, DDRAM, FDD, CD-RW, and video and sound cards. This system will not be my primary desktop and I am cost conscious. I already have my case, HDD, PS, kb, mouse and monitor.

I have usually purchased either ABIT or ASUS mobos but am open here to suggestion for a flexible, reliable, and durable mobo under or at $100. I plan to use an AMD 2400 or 2500 Athlon CPU.

Can you suggest any mobos by model and perhaps a site for purchasing the mobo and CPU other than pricewatch?

Thank you.

I would recomend a <A HREF="http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=K7N2_Delta-L" target="_new">MSI K7N2 DELTA-L</A>. Over at <A HREF="http://newegg.com" target="_new">newegg</A> they have the MSI for <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=13-130-419" target="_new">$99</A>.
Another good online reseller is <A HREF="http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/Home.jsp" target="_new">googlegear</A>. If you haven't heard of a company on pricewatch it is a good idea to check <A HREF="http://www.resellerratings.com/" target="_new">here</A>.

KT400 chipsets will run DDR 400, but only in one slot. If you use two sticks it drops you down to 333MHz. Not that it matters, if you're not running a 400MHz FSB CPU (which you can't on a KT 400 chipset, you're right there), it won't make a difference. A 333MHz FSB CPU is faster in sync with RAM at 333 than out of sync with faster (DDR400) RAM.
Have I thoroughly confused you all?
