Setting Up A Basic WLAN - Help/Advise Needed...

Hi people im a little new to setting up wireless ive used CAT5 cross over
link before to basicly share files etc but im wondering is it possible to
insert a PCI wireless card into a host pc then a PCMCIA card into a laptop
and connect over that in a simular way to the cat5 network link? i thaught i
may need a wireless access point no one at the computer fairs knows so i
thaught id ask here next, thanks for reading...

Yes. You are talking about ad hoc wireless networking. Here's an

Ad hoc works fine but doesn't scale up well beyond few nodes.
Wireless access points are used in infrastructure wireless networking
- aimed at medium/large-scale implementations.

Thanks a lot :) ill go buy a PCI wireless card now and start experementing-
makes a change from accessing the local insecure wireless networks across
town ;-) ...
