Cd burner not working properly

Hello,
my laptop was working ok, all of a sudden it dont let me burn my cds, and it tells me the burner is busy, or not connected properly, or i need a newer version, what should i do, because, when the cd is in the drive, it does some bad noices?

Can you read music or movies off the drive normally? The drive could have have been damaged especially since you said it makes odd noises when a disk is in.
