Halo 2 BIG PROBLEMS

Alright so my computer is less than a year old, while halo 2 is ancient, and it stutters like crazy. the gameplay is choppy to the point of being completely unplayable. I know there have been posts on this before, but nothing seems to help.

alright so i've got an hp dv7t
centrino 2 dual core 2.8 GHz
4 GB of RAM
Nvidia 512 Mb 9600M GT
Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I just want to relive some good old halo 2

1. Make sure your drivers are updated.
2. Usually is better to have your power cable connected.
3. Check your temperatures.

I have the latest notebook driver from Nvidia (185.81)
power cable is connected
temperatures are fine

lol now what? Generally i do all of those things before coming to Tom's for help...
