I have noticed the problem alot on mulitple computers, my newer laptop which is a turion x2 with 4gb of memory and my new desktop with an amd phenom quadcore 3.0Ghz and 8 Gb of memory where when I am playing Diablo2 online I get a periodic lag when I have to wait for my DVD drive to spin back up. How do I get it to stop doing this?

Some drives do have a very slow spin-up, but most games only access the drive during loading so are not affected by this.
Best resolution might be to use a virtual CD drive if that game allows it.

Register your copy of D2 on the Blizzard Store, that way you can download an installer from it that has built-in no-cd, and it's totally legal.

for games in general, Virtual CloneDVD beats Daemon - no spyware toolbar, and integrates with windows nicely (just right-click the virtual drive under 'Computer' and choose 'Virtual CloneDVD' near 'eject' to choose an image to mount. Runs ISO and MDF images, and others (idk which).

I'd really recommend it - a guy I know had a nightmare with Daemon and VCDVD works flawlessly.

It's Virtual Clone Drive, not Virtual CloneDVD, and it has also been discontinued. Also, there's no 64-bit compatibility whatsoever. The Daemon Tools toolbar is hardly spyware, and can be turned off very easily.

I used VCD a lot in the past, but after moving to a 64-bit OS I switched to DT and haven't had a single issue with it.

Thanks for the input, I will first try the no cd installer. Hopefully won't have any more problems.
