mobile amd sempron processor 2800+ 1.59GHz. 512 MB of RAM

You could do with some extra memory, plus your running with old Mobile ATI graphics most likely. You could up the memory to 1Gb, try and run COD2 at a low resolution 800x600, with minimal eye candy, which may help.
