A7V8X and DDR400

I have the A7V8x (KT400 chipset) Rev 1.0 mobo, with 3 DIMM slots. The mobo manual says i can use only one DDR400 or two DDR333 or three DDR266 DIMM modules. right now i am using 2*256MB=512MB DDR333 RAM. I was wondering if DDR400 or DDR433 RAM wud work on this mobo in two slots. Or for that matter, will i get a boot if i add one more DDR333 RAM? i dont want to end up underclocking my RAM to 266. right now i have a 1700+ at 12.5*171 = 2137MHz.

OH, btw, i have the latest BIOS REv 1012...if that matters...

1. KT400 is only performing at single cheannel DDR mode, so if you use 2 sticks of DDR400 they will be degraded to DDR333. Single sticks of DDR433 should be degraded to DDR400 or else you may face stabilty problem, but this would be case to case. Therefore you no need to add another DDR333 RAM because you'll be underclocked. The best way is sold all your existing RAM and get two 512MB DDR333 RAM or better 1GB module.

2. tnx TKH for the info. i think my question in my first post was not complete. what i was actually wondering is wud i get a boot if i use 2*DDR400 RAM sticks. i ask this coz i wanted to overclock my system and i thot i wud be better off using DDR400 RAm for overclocking than the DDR333 RAM. With my DDR333 Ram i have hit FSB upto 207 (9*207) with my old 1800+ CPU. i havent worked long enough at that setup to see if the system was really stable at 207 FSB. so i was kinda wondering if i cud use DDR400 sticks and then overclock my FSB, to say around 200.

I am kinda happy with my present set-up, just bot it about 6 months ago. and from where i am when someone buys a system he wud be happy with 128MB DDR266 RAM. so i doubt if there are any takers for my set-up. anyways, tnx again.

3. No boot , I had 2 x 512 mb Corsair Pc3200
with both installed @400 , no boot , even with VERY relaxed timings , Set it to 333 aggressive timings (2-2-2-5 ) , and away it went.
I didn't o/clock this board , only running a xp2100 t/brd-b with 266 FSB
most of the time I have memory in Sync with proc. 266/266
once again , no Boot w / 2 @ 400 on my board , BIOS 1011
maybe a BIOS update will improve this , but I think the chipset can't handle it
the KT400a can
