So why cant other franchises pump out games like COD does?

So what are we on now? COD 7? 7 games in how many years? Why cant other developers do this? Like HalfLife, Quake, Doom, Farcry, Age of whatever, Serious Sam, Unreal Tourny ect.

I wish more of these games would come out! What ever happened to quake? That was was the **** back in the day! It was the biggest PC franchise by far. Then after Quake 3 puff and its gone! Quake 3 was such an awesome game and how hard would it really be to make another one with cutting edge graphics and same gameplay. The game is really simple. COD does it why not others?!

I think you would find most gamers would rather longer development cycles. The COD series is kind of the exception (along with sports franchise - but they're a completely different animal).

But generally it's better if developers take a few years between titles and put out a more polished product each time. I mean who want's to spend $50 every year for incremental improvements & changes?
