Post-SP2, no taskbar, no icons

just installed the final version of service pack 2 downloaded from microsoft and now that it is installed, my desktop will not load. task manager works and im able to run programs from it as is what im doing now to type this, but none of my icons or taskbar load anymore.

any ideas guys?

Did you read the warning? The one that is downloadable is for multiple computers at once...

Try reinstalling your Operating System, and wait until Microsoft officially releases SP2 for individual computer use.

The "multiple computer" version is just an offline version of SP2, so you don't have to keep downloading it from WindowsUpdate everytime you format.

Check the properties setting for your taskbar, had the same problem. Thats if you can still see it, i had enought there to right click on it to pull up properties. Check make sure it did not reset your settings.

i have the same problem

press ctrl-alt-delete, and kill explorer.exe


then goto File>New Tast(Open) and type in explorer.exe


youll get your desktop. probably have to resintall windows
