Hey guys here's my setup:

e8400 @ 3.4ghz
Saphirre 4870 512mb
4gb Gskill ram
Windows Vista 64 bit
22 inch Acer Monitor

My question is,

Why is it that Crysis is skipping a lagging to the point where I cannot even play it on the "The Reckoning" mission? It pauses like every few seconds when turning around and everything.

I have the latest Catalyst Drivers 9.5 (atm) and everything.

I am playing it on the "High" setting with AA turned off on the 1440x900 resolution but I am getting terrible frame rates and pausing problems...

Can someone help me?

Thanks.

If you do a search online it seems that Crysis is heavily biased towards Nvidia cards? There are many with the HD4870 that have very serious problems with Crysis.

yea, i have the nvidia equivalent of yours, the GTX 260 core 216, and it gives me a constant 30-37 FPSs on Very high... yea, not all games are created equal.

Run Real Temp 3.0 in the background and when you get freezes in Crysis, check the Real temp log and you'll probably see your GPU running close to 85 C. Sounds like heat issues in your GPU and maybe even CPU. Which CPU cooler are you using?

I had one of those 512 cards. There's not enough video memory on it for that game. Turn back your settings until it's more playable.

maybe you need to defrag LOL!!!!!! i use Iolo System Mechanic to help keep my PC running nice and smooth :D

and here is my crysis benchmark Vista Home Premium 32bit 1920x1080 2xAA Dx10 Maxed Settings - 3 runs :

Im sorry, i can run Crysis on V high settings, quite a low res but hey...on a slightly overclocked 9600gt, which has 512mb memory. So dont say 512mb, especially when a 4870 has GDDR5 isnt enough. Do your research.

Because you use a low res, hence you can get away with less VRAM. 512MB VRAM is a limiting factor, as is the fact the game is biased toward NVIDIA. Having a Duo may hurt a bit to, as Crysis does respond to Quads better then some other games...

try using AMD fusion, you may have a memory or cpu hog running in the background

Again, the 512MB VRAM, on "only" a 4870 won't go with Crysis at very high settings, end discussion. Don't make this harder then it has to be.

Mans got a point.

apparently the folks here failed to realize the part where the OP is starting to lag. instead, they wanna jump at each other and slice the other dude in half.

if im not mistaken "The Reckoning" is the last mission where you get to fight aboard the carrier against the big "beetle-looking" monstrosity.

i've done it with a 8600gt,9600gt,4870 1gb, it always lagged so thats pretty normal and consistent. hell even some random BSOD's popped up when i was doing the final mission.

what happens when you use those settings with the 4870?

well ive finishd the game both on a 4850 512mb (1680x1050 High) and on a 4890 (1680x1050 V High) with both an avg of id say 35 through out the entire game except for the end part he is describing i would get major frame cuts (10-15 fps) i found out that by playing it on dx9 instead of 10 it would become playable again
