Hi

I was looking at cheap i7's recently and wondering If its the right time to build a new system, Or if Overclocking would keep my fps up while the prices drop.

Anyway.... I started by installing some monitoring apps, RivaTuner, and what not! and found that while playing games like GTA4 and S.t.a.l.k.e.r. ClearSky on full detail, My cpu was running at 84c, Idling at 62c on average

So I bought a Asus Silent Knight 2 heatsink&fan. After Installing it with a thin layer of arctic Silver5, the temps have droped 20c...

Now... this Is my problem, I know that befor I changed the HS&F I could play on any of my games for any amount of hours without any problems at all, The last program I put on my system was Rivatuner, which made no fuss the other day when I played GTA4 for 5-6hours. All my temps are low, Ive had no windows updates for about a week(Vista Service pack 2) and now I can play for only 30-40 min befor the computer hangs with sound loops. I can get to taskmgr but I just shows cpu at about 25% and App not responding, I have recorded my temps with RealTemp3.0 and the hightest was 65c. Gpu runs at around the same, and Idles at 51c and 47c(SLI)

I get the same crash on all games(left4dead, GTA4,Stalker's, Fallout3,Grid,F.E.A.R.2,Bioshock....)

My system Spec's
Q6600 2.4Ghz, Asus P5N32-Sli Premium(inc supremeFX audio), X2 Palit 8800GT super+ 1GB(SLI), 4GB 800mhz, Samsung 500Gb + 34GB WD Raptor(OS), LG super Multi BluRay Dvd drive, Antec 1200, Tagan 900W.....and SilentKnight2

Some things I Didnt mention....

Im on Vista 64bit Home Premium

When I first booted after changing the HeatSink I got a "CPU Changed" Error at post "F1 to continue"-This didnt seem to have much effect-

Ive just tryed Arma Armed Assault and It crashed After 20min

GTA4 had a Critical Runtime Problem
