I upgraded my Startac to an LG VX4400B back in December and have been
reasonably happy with it. Today I was introduced to the VX4500 and both my
wife and I have a severe case of the "gimmes." We both LOVE the voice
activation built into this phone and some of the other enhancements they put
into it since designing the 4400.

I didn't really ask the local sales rep. if it was possible to take advantage
of their current price/promotion on the 4500 since we're just six months into
our current two year contract. For fun, I went through the website, logged
onto my account and attempted to upgrade my phone there. It appeared to me
that the website would allow me to get the phone after agreeing to a new two
year contract period for $59 (after rebates).

Now it may be that there was an logic check in the web transaction code had I
hit the last button to complete the process that would have given me some bad
news. Up until I canceled the transaction, it looked willing and able to sell
me the phone at that price.

Anyone tried upgrading a phone so early in the contract period? I remember in
the old days they would require 10 months wait before you could take advantage
of various promotions. It changes so fast now that I haven't a clue on what
rules apply.

I have tried. They will not allow it before you are 1 year into the
contract.

The VX4600 (Internet only) looks like a better phone at a better price. All
the same features except more lines on the color display, more talk hours
per battery and a cheaper price (for me the difference is $219 for VX4600
verses $269 for VX4500 with "no contract" according to the web site). You
might want to check that out.

The LG VX-4600 doesn't have a speakerphone.

I was 11 months into a 2 year contract and customer service let me upgrade
my phones at the cheaper rate + rebate. I had to extend my contract so that
the 2 years started again right then. I was going to buy the phones off of
E-bay but figured that I had nothing to lose when I called customer service
and asked for the new phone deal.

It may be worth a try for you as well.
