Recently I thought to reload and play Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y. Edition (the old one, because I like the music and being able to rename the bots).
I noticed, however, that the game was unplayable, because movement was almost instantaneous. This was always true on my Q9450/HD4850, and sometimes (but not always!) true on my 4850e/HD4670.
I already knew to set the Affinity for a single core only. That corrects jumpiness, but not this problem.
I figured it out though. As the game loads, it isn't taxing the CPU enough, so it scales for whatever the Speedstep/Cool&Quiet lower CPU speed is. This adjustment is made BEFORE the CPU ramps up, which is what makes the game unplayable. If I load something else first, so the CPU is already busy, this problem does not manifest. Once the game loads, I can shut down the busywork program.
