The card is so obsolete, no modern games will run on it. Either upgrade to a new card, or stick with games from the Pre-Windows98 era.

HL1: http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/

HL2: http://store.steampowered.com/app/220/

geforce 4 series appears to support DX7 so may get HL2 at a push. What other specs? is this a laptop?

Windows 98 games he'd be better off getting a geforce 4ti, the mx4000 wasnt really part of the geforce 4 family and wasnt as fast as the earlier gefore 4's, but supported later features.

From memory back when I had a mx4000 I managed to play age of mythology, star wars galactic battlegrounds and dawn of war all reasonably well. Im not 100% sure but I think on low settings World of Warcraft could run on one as well, although that may have changed with updates since those days!

No pixel shaders, so old games may not necessarily work, CIV I,II,III will work, Original Unreal will work, Orig quake will work, HL2 wont neither any games with shader model built in.

Quick google shows mx4000 is only DX7 hardware, so and pre DX8 game should work fine, but with no Pixel/Vertex shaders you are limited.

Single Player games and some MP games that might still be around. Some of these games can be played in software mode and don't require high end systems:

Quake I,2,3
Unreal
Unreal Tournament
Duke Nukem 3D
Solitaire
WarCraft I, II
StarCraft I
EarthSiege, Starsiege series
Star Wars Dark Forces and Dark Forces Jedi Knight
Bladurs Gate I, II
Ice WindDale I, II

[edit] also the original Half-Life

I think u might be able to play Battlefield 1942 or the original Half-Life depending on your proc.

hey i have this cheap n old (2004) gf mx 4000, it cant play games which require pixel shader, but runs fine those which dont require them (usually older ones).

hi I have this cheap n old card , although this card came in 2003 , its actually an over clocked gf 2 mx from 1999-2000 !!! so obviosly it cant play newer games , specially those requiring pixel shader , but runs those games which dont require pixel shader , but with low resolution & details.

some tech specs:
128 mb ddr memory
64 bit wide bus
6.4 gb/s bandwidth
1.2 bn pixel/s fill rate
2 texture pipelines
no pixel & vertex hardware

HENCE only suitable for games older than 2004-2005 with no pixel shader requirement.

Hey, I had a V6 Camry; that thing would fly (loved beating Mustangs off the line!); too bad it died after 350k miles; transmission finally went (I abused it for a while...) and decided to junk it.
