I'm building a new system and I am stuck on what Mobo to get, I'm going to be using
CORSAIR 1GB(2 x 512MB) 2x(64MX64) PC-3200LL
And a 2.8C GHZ P4 800fsb
Also going to being using a SATA HDD
I'm not sure to go with he ASUS OR ABIT or whatever other 800 FSB with SATA motherboards are out there. I have read a lot of mixed reviews and they seem they all have their problems. I would greatly appreciate to see what you guys think is the best one.
I just bought the Soyo 875p dragon 2 platinum. Had all of the features I wanted including a northbridge heatsink instead of a fan. Newegg has it for $190. The only bad thing that the anandtech review said about it was that the bios was organized a little wierd and the IDE connectors were a little too far towards the bottom of the board. Oh, the CPU voltage can't go higher than 1.6 which can be fixed with a bios update (if it hasn't already). I don't plan on doing to much overclocking anyway. As far as performance, it was right there in the middle of the pack and higher on occasion. I will install it on monday and let everyone know how it is.
By the way the ABIT has a really loud fan, which can be annoying. Read the review on anandtech.com (the roundup). They are coming out with a new version shortly with a revised heatsink/fan combo which will be much more quite.
They are the fastest and most reliable mobos on the market. I have no idea why THG never reviews them. They are far superior to Asus, Gigabyte, Abit, Soyo, or any other of THG's "usual suspects".
I challenge THG to include them in performance tests against any previously reviewed mobo.
Is the reason for suggesting the Abit IS7, just a great value? If money was not an issue, what mobo is better-the Abit IS7 or the Asus P4P800? Reasons being?
Just value. The Asus board offers Gigabit LAN (3COM) other than that its really just Abit vs Asus name. I'm sure they pack slightly different bundles as well.
I haven't used either board so I can't comment on Abit's noisy fan.
I think you get what you pay for, the Asus board is probably "better" if you make use of what your paying (extra) for.
I suggest reading AnandTech's 865PE/875P Motherboard Roundup if you want to know more. Also search for other reviews of the boards your interested in.
In the end I dought you will be dissapointed with either board.
