My BIOS shows both my drives (WD 80GB JB and an IBM 30GB)-both suppport UDMA 100/Mode 5 - as UDMA Mode 2 drives and Windows reports them as the same.

They also perform at UDMA Mode 2 speeds (about 30MB burst in HDTACH).

I have the WD as primary master with the IBM as primary slave (using the cables that came with the mobo). I'm at BIOS 1007 and I believe I have installed the latest Intel chipset INF's.

If anyone's got any ideas, I would surely appreciate it.

Are you using windows xp?

Have you looked at your chipset drivers that are installed to be sure they are the latest?

I just ask, because I have xp, and it has reverted some older drivers, and even though I have run the install for the newer drivers several times, the older drivers are still there.

Thanks for responding.

Yes using WinXP SP1

Which piece of hardware in the Device Manager exactly should I be looking at? How do I determine if I have the latest drivers (i.e. whose website do I go to, to find out?)

Thanks,

Bean

Downloaded updated BIOS (1008) and it fixed my UDMA problem

Got it here:
