When using the web browser to access
http://communities.microsoft.com/N [...] fault.asp?
ICP=windowsxp&sLCID=US&newsgroup=microsoft.public.windowsxp
..general or .basic I've been getting "Newsgroup Not
Available" for the last two days. But I can read .New
Users. I've set my Zone Alarm firewall to "Off". Is the
problem on my computer or at Microsoft's server?

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of
the "http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/defaul
t.mspx" link, but it shows the page in a different format
than the old link. And I like the way the old pages are
displayed. They're easier for me to read. Since "New
Users" is still accessible using the old address, I
thought "General" and "Basic" should be too. Are you
telling me that the old address is no longer available?

Thanks,
Milt

Hmmm..I'm not 100% sure what you mean, Milt. I'm not a big fan of the web
interface myself. I much prefer Outlook Express for NGs.
Perhaps someone else can assist?

Milt,
That page does list those 2 groups, but like you, I'm getting those 2 as not available.
I hardly ever use the web-based interface.
Like Jim, I stick with the news server access via Outlook Express. ;-)

btw, the default.asp page loads. However, the other page you noted appears to be obsolete.

Thanks for the comments Maurice. I sometimes use the NNTP
reader in Outlook Express. I just prefer the web based
view. I like the way it's laid out. The site Maurice
recommended is displayed in a less convenient format.
