Northbridge vs Southbridge

This may seem pretty basic to most - but what is the definition of and the different purposes of both the North and Southbrige chipsets

But Officer, I wasn't speeding - I was qualifying ...

Heya Jake;

I will try and keep this simple for ya.

The Northbridge is the controller and gateway between the CPU, Memory, and AGP port, it also connects to the southbridge.

The southbridge controlls the hard drives, floppy, PCI, etc etc...
