Trying to install xp on laptop with 7 ultimate

Hello,
am having win 7 ultimate and trying to install xp again after even formatting c drive it abruptly shuts down computer while setting up xp. Forcing me to again installing 7 Please help

I would say that the Laptop has Hardware that does not play well with certain versions of XP. Make sure that the version you are using is at the very least XP Service Pack 2. It may even require XP Service Pack 3 slipstreamed to an installation disk. If the Disk you are using is one that came with the Laptop as some Downgrade option then there may some requirement to recover a preinstalled OS in a certain manner.
