My parents are running a system on an MSI 6378 motherboard (duron 1100, 256mb pc133- yes, it is a bit s**t!).They are using the onboard video (trident blade with 8mb shared) and sound (ac97) and there is a problem with the sound in particular. When you are playing a cd or mp3 or whatever and you do anything that affects the display, like open something or particularly scroll down a webpage, the sound slows down dramatically and/or crackles with interference.I have read that this might have something to do with the IRQ of the sound and video but i am a complete layman when it comes to IRQs so i don't know what to do.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

I have just put in a pci sound card (6 channel with c-media 8378 chipset) and disabled the onboard sound but the problem is still there exactly as it was.Any ideas?

Could be an OS issue. Try resetting the bios and then reinstalling os and if none works, send the mobo back.
