Hi, I'm going to build a new computer for my uncle to replace his old Pentium Pro w/ 32mb of ram.

Specs
Pentium 4 2.6C HT 800mhz FSB
Corsair 2x256mb ddr PC3200 TwinX
Radeon9500 128mb
WesternDigital 80GB w/8mb cache
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
Lit-on CD-RW 52/32/52 black
Antec Metallic Grey w/430watt true power
17" viewsonic flatscreen monitor
Creative 5.1 inspire
Logitech keyboard and mouse Wireless duo
Windows XP PRO Full

I'm wondering if the gigabyte motherboard will have any conflicts with the corsair ram. If anyone thinks I shouldn't get this motherboard Please tell me and give me a reason for it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this

heya raging;

I would change two things.

1) I would get an Abit Is7 with the i865pe chipset, as it got excellent reviews in a recent anandtech article.

2) I would buy crucial memory as it is the very model of industry standard and you wont have any problems with it, also it is a good performer, and you will have some money left over as it is usually less expensive then corsair.

If you want to run Cas2 with dual channel, you'll want the TwinX 3200LL. These memory controllers push the memory very hard!

I've heard something about some manufacturer not supporting Corsair, was that gigabyte perhaps? Anyway, I'd go with the Abit IS7/IS7-G or the Asus P4P800/P4P800-Deluxe.

I want something that has alot of features , I don't really care about overclocking because it is my uncles computer and if anything goes wrong i'm going to have to fix it. Gigabyte released a New bios update so it will be compatible with the Corsair ram.

Sounds like you already got help.
There's a 24 mobo roundup on page one, give that a look.
865/875 for sure.

I'm ordering a new Motherboard today. I was struggling a bit on choosing a main board but thanks to the 24 board review, I’ve narrowed it down to 2. Either the MSI neo 2 FSRI model or the cheaper ASUS P4P800.

I'm leaning towards the Nero because for 2 reasons; 1 - it comes with rounded cables to help improve airflow, 2 - better performance and 3 - Apparently the ASUS has PAT which is causing some headaches in the overclocking department.
