Well i'm kinda desperate so i will look for an answer here too.First my pc:
Processor: AMD Phenom triple-core 2.1 ghz
Memory : 2x2gb DDR 2 800 mhz
Video card : Leadtek GeForce 9600GT 512MB GDDR3, 256bit (drivers updated to the last vesion)
Motherboard : Asus M3N78-CM, Socket AM2/AM2+
Hard disk : HDD Seagate Barracuda 500GB, 7200rpm, SATA, ST3500320AS
The problem appears in WoW and can be generaly described through incredible freezes( that are not caused by the players around me); freezes that are making me restart the pc or small freezes that are repeatedly occuring. In the next second after the freeze(in case i don't have to restart) my fps are droping from 60/70/100( depending inwhich area i am) to 3/4/5 fps..once it droped to 0.The os is xp service pack 2.
I've tried anything..even lowering the settings or no addons but still i'm experiencing the same problem.(imo with that configuration i shouldn't have any problems).I've tested my video card with certain programs..all were fine.
If u guys need more details, tell me and i will provide them.
Sounds to me like your GPU is overheating, check the heatsink fan speed, and you may possibly need to remove the heatsink, check the contact between the GPU and Mem chips and replace the thermal compound on the GPU with something like Artic Silver 5.
Check for any dust buildup on the heatsink itself, and worst case senario, replace the heatsink with a better aftermarket solution if you have to.

Thx for the advice..and wouldn't an overheating problem could cause the same problems in other games(like nfs undercover ,blacksite area 51,assassin's creed) rather than wow which at graphics isn't the best out there...i mean with that configuration imo it shouldn't cause problems.
