I recently assembled my new machine and I only have ONE problem. The BIOS auto detected my Hard Drive w/ OS during the inital boot up. However, every time I do a cold boot (full shutdown), the BIOS seems to forget about the Hard Drive. Thus, when it tries to boot it goes to the CDR/CDRW Drive because it has forgotten about my Hard Drive. When I go into the BIOS and it finally picks up the Drive, I can then boot to the OS from the Hard Drive. BUT as soon as I do a cold boot it forgets about my Hard Disk again. All my other BIOS settings are saved correctly, but the BIOS doesn't seem to save or be able to detect my Hard Disk every time I do a cold boot.
Because it forgets about my Hard Drive, which is my primary device in boot sequence, it goes to the next device by default. Obviously my OS will not be on the second device. You can probably see my problem.
It is a pain in the arse to go into the BIOS manually every time to get the system to boot to the Hard Disk. Here are the full specs for my system including BIOS version, I am hoping one of you experts know what I might do to fix this annoyance.
PS. I have no Diskette Drive installed, I have disabled it in the BIOS as well, just thought I would mention it in case this might have any influence on my problem.
P4 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB Hyperthreading
Asus P4P800 Motherboard (BIOS revision 1008)
Samsung PC3200 DDR 400MHz Dual Channel (2 x 256MB)
Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM Hard Disk
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB
Samsung DVD Drive
Samsung CDR/CDRW Drive
Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value
Problem with my Mobo? Hard Drive? Cables? BIOS? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Noel
