This is the article : http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030429/index.html

Toms, i really need your help.
How did you use pentium4 800Mhz processor on a P4G8X (a 533Mhz mobo) ???
I bought almost the same setup with the review from Toms, believing they would work.
My config:
Asus P4G8X Deluxe
P4 2.8C 800Fsb
2 X Corsair 3200C2 512Mb
Maxtor 80Gb
Antec 430W

I can only go up to 170fsb
P4 2.8c multiplier = 14
14 x 170 = 2380Mhz
i'm only running at 2.3Ghz
can you beleive it, with the amount of money i spent !!!
I have tried bios revision 1004, 1005 and also 1006.
The default processor speed is 1400Mhz (14 x 100fsb).

Please, someone in toms can you tell me the tweaks or the settings you did to get a 800fsb processor work on this mobo.

Please prove that your article and review is true.
My friends are killing me for believing tomshardware.

If you love something set it free, if it doesn't come back, hunt it down and kill it !!!

well...first of all i must say that, that was not a smart thing to do...although tom's got it to run a 800mhz fsb...that does not mean all boards will be able to...that being said...go into the bios and set the cpus fsb to 200mhz...it should POST @ the cpu's rated speed...i assume you have pc3200?

In the article Toms made the statement that there was no reason to go out and get the i875 chipset board if you already had a i7205 chipset board because it would do 200x4 with out any trouble, i think mrjeejay has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Toms overstated the ability of the chipset, as Toms made a broad statement implying that ALL i7205 chipsets would run the p4c.

I looked all through the manual and can't find reference to the CPU:DRAM ratio, perhaps someone else knows how to set the memory frequency?

heya crashman;

well you can set the cpu external frequency but there is not a field for setting the ratio, its locked at 1:1, they did it on purpose, i dunno man it just wont do it, and its fustrating, me and him worked on it for quite a while trying everything in the book to get it to post at 200x4 and it just wont go...bad deal.

Hi there. I send you a mail earlier about your plans in another forum. I have the same problem with the same components. I tried the different BIOS versions, just in case, but nothing works.
The MB doesn’t accept the P4-2.8-800.I can't understand how Tom's manage to make it work!! I’m using the old P4-2.66-533 over clocked (150 MHz buss) that results in 3000MHz processor.
I keep on trying….

Hi PIII man
I couldn't get the P4-2.8-800 to work well in that MB so I decided to use a P4-2.66-533, at 150 (and I have the right cooling). I could increase the buss speed but I ordered another MB instead. I’m not paying for it myself. ?
With the ASUS P4G8X and the Pentium 2.8-800 I could use 100, 166 and the max 190 as system buss. I got then 1440, 2324 and 2660 MHz from the processor.
Some how the ASUS Bios or Intel made changes in the processor so it can’t start with the i7205 at a higher speed than 190 MHz ????. Who knows....

You are lucky you could get 190fsb... hmmm.
Can you tell me how you could get 190fsb.
I'm stuck at 170 fsb.

Did you use any cooling for the northbridge chipset.
What was the difference before and after putting on the cooling ?

Was it stable at 190fsb ?

If you love something set it free, if it doesn't come back, hunt it down and kill it !!!

Normally the north bridge is the weak link when you are trying to run a board faster than it is rated...as a general rule of mine...

If you can get past post but once you get into windows you start getting instability after some time...adding cooling might help...

If from a cold boot the computer will not even post...then save your time and money for another board (that is assumming that you are sure that every other part of your comp can take it.
