I might have to upgrade my MOBO and processor due to damage to my current one. After reading around i was thinking about this:

- P4 2.4 GHZ Socket 478, Bus 533 Mhz
- MOBO Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Intel 865PE chipset

Now a few questions:

- mobo specs say it supports DDR 266. I have 756 MB of this memory with my current ABIT B7 mobo. Does anyone now if I can reuse them with this mobo?

- my graphics card is AGP 4x - since this board AGP 8x, i understand that i need to upgrade to a new card. what is a good choice for a medium range card?

- what do you guys think of this choice. anything significantly better for same budget?

Thanks!

heya,,,

your ram will work fine in the new board, and you dont need to buy a new video card, your agp 4x card will work fine.

Yeah just like mine;

P4 2.4C 800FSB
512MB 2700 Crucial Ram
MSI Neo FIS2R Mainboard
2 x 60 gig ATA100 Seagate Barracuda 2MB cache on a RAID 0
Liteon 52X12X52 CD-RW
MSI GeforceFX 5600 Ultra 256MB
Antec Plusview 1000 AGM (anyone who wants a new case, I would higher recommed this case)
Antec 320Watt PSU
19" Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454
I alot of people are saying the 5600 ultra is crap. But form the benchmarks it can easily keep up with the radeon 9600 pro. Also when I go to the grpahics card forum theres always a thread were someone has got a problem with their Radeon.
I've just brought the parts and the GPU was only £135 where as the Radeon was £140, for a 128MB version.

And by the way get the 800 FSB P4 the extra few dollers (or in my case £'s)it costs is well worth it for the preformance it gives over the old 533 FSB. Plus it also comes with Hyper threading.
