I needed to rebuild/load XP Pro on my pc. So I used the file and settings to
move my email etc over on my backup drive. Then I did a total backup to the
drive using the XP back up.. After the rebuild, I ran the file and setting
wizard and got the email back.. well it did drop my news groups in
OExpress.. I noticed it did all this with no input from me.. I am ready to
re-load the backup files, but now am worried.. is it going to reload
everything..including the registry and the hidden problem I had?
Will it let me select what programs to reload so I can catch the problem or
will it just rebuild/load everything with no input from me like the file and
settings?
TIA
PS:Now OE automatically expands each topic... is there a switch somewhere to
turn that off..

The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard will export specific files and
settings at it's default setting. If you want to include extra information
(or exclude certain information) you'll need to select the option to "Let me
select a list of files and settings when I click Next" This is the 5th
screen that shows on my system and says "What do you want to transfer" in the
top left of the window.
FWIW - I used the wizard to transfer the information from my wife's old
system to her new system. I had some problems because of software and
hardware changes that I didn't anticipate. I'd recommend transferring the
minimum amount necessary (primarily files) and restoring your settings
manually.
On my system (which I restore fairly frequently) I only save the files. I
made a list of the settings that I wanted to keep and reset them after the
new installation. This prevents any problems with a stray registry setting
fouling things up.

Open OE and try Tools\Options and the Read tab. 2nd or 3rd line uncheck
Automatically Expand Grouped Messages. Hope this works.
