Compaq Deskpro EP won't accept new graphics cards

My Compaq Deskpro EP 6300 refuses to accept a new AGP graphics card. I've tried a GeForce 256 and a GeForce 2 MX, both working, and the all I get is 7 beeps (1 long, 1 short, 1 long, pause, 1 long, 2 short.). It seems that the BIOS is expecting the naff ATI Rage IIC in the AGP slot, and it won't run with anything else. I want to ask if there is any sort of BIOS workaround, or is it safe to flash a new BIOS over the Compaq one? Or is there something else that can be done?

Never mind, I've fixed it. I flashed the BIOS to the latest version from the Compaq site and now it works a charm!
