wuauclt.exe is Automatic Updates.

To stop it from running...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Automatic Updates |
Click Stop button | Set to disabled | Click Apply | Click OK |
Close Services

Process File: wuauclt or wuauclt.exe
Process Name: AutoUpdate for WindowsME

Description:
Wuauclt.exe is a process managing automatic updates for Windows. This
process continuously checks for the latest updates by going online.
This process should not be removed if you want to get informed about
new updates.
Sandy,
When you post a question please include what operating system your
using.
Best,

Do you suppose that the OS is Windows XP as this is an XP newsgroup?

I wouldn't suppose that. There are frequently questions for Win2K and Win98
posted here.

That may be true, Richard, but I'll bet a nickel that Treeman asked that
question because he thought that wuauclt.exe is a Windows ME file.

Although that's true, they are relatively rare, and it should be
the responsibility of the person asking the question to ensure
that he's asking in the right newsgroup. If he gets the wrong
answer because he asked in the wrong place, it's his own fault.

In fact we all, including you, answer questions in the XP
newsgroups all the time, without stopping to ask the OP whether
he's running XP. Doing it any other way would be clumsy and
unwieldy.

Despite the advice you frequently see not to make assumptions,
assumptions are a necessity in life. If you have to stop to
question everything, nothing would ever get done.

It's me,
I didn't realize that wuauclt.exe migrated over to XP. In my database
it pointed directly to ME. I almost didn't respond to this post because
it was so lame;
"sandy, I need help fixxig this wuauclt.exe it wont go away can u help
me"
I was almost out of the newsgroup, but I figured I'd get some dialog
going with her. That's why I included,
"When you post a question please include what operating system your
using."

Glad you folks jumped in, but as you can see the OP never came back.
But then, _I_ did learn something!
Best,
Treeman
