I just had to purchase a new motherboard for my gaming computer. On my old motherboard I had my old P3 500 hosting the internet through RASPPPOE and sharing it on a network.
After I installed the new motherboard I have not been able to get it to work like that again. I am able to have my gaming computer as the host and my old P3 500 as a Client, but for some reason I cant get the gaming machine to work as a client.
I have run the networking wizard numerous times on both machines. I have also tried using sygate which is a networking manager. One strange thing is when my gaming machine is set up as a client I can see the connection and the details of it under "Network Connections" but I still cant access the internet on the gaming machine. I have released and renewed the IP's several times. I have also tried to setup the network according the the manual guides.
I would just give up and let my gaming machine be the host but it is so loud that I like to turn it off at night. I will probably just format both machines and start over again.
Both machines are running Windows XP and a Netgear Switch.

when the gaming machine is a client, is it getting an IP address? (run ipconfig /all from a DOS prompt on both machines and post the results here if possible)
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
